A professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, The Almighty. He asks one of his new students to stand and.....
Prof: So you believe in God?
Student: Absolutely, sir.
Prof: Is God good?
Student: Sure.
Prof: Is God all-powerful?
Student: Yes.
Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?
(Student is silent.)
Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Is Satan good?
Student: No.
Prof: Where does Satan come from?
Student: From...God...
Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student: Yes.
Prof: So who created evil?
(Student does not answer.)
Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student: Yes, sir.
Prof: So, who created them?
(Student has no answer.)
Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student: Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student: And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student: No sir. There isn't.
(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, megaheat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that.
There is no such thing as cold . Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy . Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it .
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)
For those science buffs - The element with the lowest melting/freezing point is helium at -458 degrees Fahrenheit (-272.2 degrees Celsius). Also called Absolute Zero.
Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....
But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it?
In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality.
You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God.
You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure.
Sir, science can't even explain a thought.
It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.
To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.
Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor.Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?
(The class is in uproar.)
Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)
Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it?
No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain,sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)
Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Four Dimensions of Life
How much have you lived? How much have you breathed, loved, hurt and felt? Life has four dimensions: length, breadth, depth and height.
Some people live in only one dimension. Just like Methuselah (Gen5:27), he lived 969 years and had many sons and daughters. But that's it! But Jesus lived only 33 years band changed the world forever.
Breadth means how wide your life is lived. Ask yourself, how far advanced am I in the knowledge of truth? Live your life wide enough to change the destiny of another individual.
Your life needs depth. Depth--deep underlying purposes and principles of faith--is produced in you through the bible. Depth produces mission, purpose and power. After a while you're saying "Lord, not my will, but Thine be done." We need depth in the Word so that when the devil attacks us with illness, we say "I'll stand on the Word of God. By His stripes, I'm healed." (Isaiah53.5)
Height means life is measured by the upward, outward reach of your own aspirations and resolve. Don't rush through life. Fulfill each part. Moses had four dimensions. His life had length, breadth, depth and height. He was a veteran. The title of veteran is attained not by years but by campaigns and battles in which you were found faithful.
God does not stop with one generation. After Moses died, there was Joshua.
Do you see the point? Teach our children to perpetuate the visions and dreams that God has spoken to you. What God speaks doesn't last only one generation but it lasts forever. God calls your children to be a blessing, and that call will go on and on until Jesus comes. That's length, breadth, depth and height of life!

It's a Full House!
(From left to right" Timothy, Kelvin, Pastor Danny, Philip and Lee Kheng)We were blessed to have two visitors (Kelvin and Timothy, Winlin's colleague), the return of Philip and Lee Kheng (2nd visit) and even privileged to have Pastor Danny attending our Friday HomeCell Meeting (18/04/08). It was a full house that night. The men outnumbered the ladies. We worshipped, had a good round of sharing and yummy refreshments courtesy of Winlin's mom-in-law. I know we certainly had a blessed night.

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older.And, there on television, she said it was 'exciting.' Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day...like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first.
The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such a simple and honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!

The Brick
A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared.Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?" The young boy was apologetic.
"Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do,"He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..." With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the boy pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother, "he said "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay."Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy! push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: "Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not. Thought for the Day:

The Seven "I AM"
Jesus said ‘I am’ on seven occasions. Each ‘I am’ is a description Jesus gave of Himself and is recorded in John’s Gospel. The Seven ‘I am’ sayings help us better understand the divinity of Jesus Christ.
1. Bread
"I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35 (NIV)

It was this which became the center of the entire discourse of Jesus recorded in John 6. Jesus is explaining to the people the spiritual significance of His miracle. Their hearts were on the earthly, on the physical benefits they could receive if Jesus would be their king. Jesus must, and He does, explain to them who and what He really is. He is the great I AM, the very revelation of Jehovah God come down to save His people.

Truly blessed!
Indeed, our family is truly blessed. I realised that as I commit myself to the Lord and spend more time praying, amazing things happened.
Michael Reyes sermon motivated me to pray in tongues for a longer period than the normal 5minutes. I wanted to see for myself what will happen. During the period, we also received news that Tim was offered to be posted to Thailand. We thought that was an interesting offer as we would be able to have our own place and live pretty well.
As we pondered and deliberate on the offer, funnily enough I was always awakened very early in the morning like 4 or 5am and had a hard time falling back to sleep so I spent the time praying in tongues and asking God of His divine plan for us? Is this His plan? Should we take the offer? I prayed like this for almost 2 weeks. Finally, on the day when Tim had to decide on whether we should take on the offer, I had prayed the night before. I had asked God, if indeed the offer is for us, the package we are looking at, is a certain amount in order to survive. If this is NOT His plan, to close the door on this offer.
The next day, Tim deliberated and after discussing with the prospective employer, we found out that it was very clear that it was not God's will for us to relocate. So, we decline the offer. On the same day, Tim received his job increment.
As for me, I had been praying and asking God for a good job that provides flexi hours and good pay. You see, I wanted to spent more time looking after the children especially with Jeremiah. Looking back, in our 1st 2008 cell meeting held on 12 February, our beloved leader chided us to learn to take notes in meetings and sermons so that we can take down scripture quotes that would be useful not only to us but to others. I felt compelled to do so and bought myself a book so that not only can I take down notes but also do some simple journalling. I wrote my note of thanks to the Lord and entrusted my plans to the Lord (which included the job request). A couple of days later, my PR application was approved. On 8 April, I got a job with flexi hours and a good pay. Not only does God answer prayers but through journalling, you can also know the duration it takes for him to answer your prayers.
These scriptures really comes to mind: Isaiah 1:19, If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land. Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
And what do you know, the above scriptures were given as blessing from our cellgroup weekly memory verse.

Journey in 08 continues ...
As we wait on the Lord for His directions, allow me to share my thoughts on the events that has unfolded this year for our family. We thank God for his blessings financially and providing us with opportunities that have come along our way. As we draw strength from God each week to serve Him at SPK and at the same time maintain our patience and sanity juggling with the 3 growing boys, I thank God that He has blessed our relationship with the intimacy and open communication channels. I pray that this will be one of the keys to the success of your family life too. (My dear wife will be ever ready to share the attributes of His Needs / Her Needs, and I can reaffirm the Godly truths expounded.)
While we were close to relocating, God had other plans. The wait continues and the joy is in waiting on the Lord for His directions. While our human mind ponders over what it could have been, Trust in the Lord reveals that His Will be done.
We welcome Phillip and Lee Kheng who visited our cell last Friday and look forward to see them again. Praise be to God for their sons attendance at the youth service on Saturday. Perhaps soon, their boys can also join us in our activities.... Hmm, should we start looking for a large Ballroom for this year's Christmas party!!!

Friday Cell & April Birthday Babies!
